How to plan the visit

Travel the signed NY-23A corridor and use only established viewing areas. The upper ridge may be farther along in color than the lower Hudson-facing slopes. Nearby Kaaterskill Falls access requires separate planning.

Road, park and safety checks

Parking restrictions and steep, slippery trail approaches are serious constraints. Do not stop on road shoulders or assume a waterfall trail is safe or accessible from the scenic road.

If the color or access does not line up

Ashokan Reservoir provides a calmer, wide-water fall-color viewpoint without the same gorge-driving experience.

Use the Catskills Fall Color decision planner to compare individual location timing for your date and outing preference. The regional map does not assume that all locations peak together.
