These are historical planning patterns, not a promise about conditions or a forecast of checkpoint minutes. Holiday dates and weekday-aware rankings update for the selected year, but the 2025 travel comparisons and October 2026 fuel-price snapshot are historical and are not automatically refreshed.
- Airport crowd patterns: TSA 2025 national checkpoint counts. Thanksgiving totals are actual 2025 screenings, transferred to the matching holiday-relative day in the planner. Christmas crowds are qualitative estimates; no day count is invented. National screenings cannot reveal the security queue at a particular airport.
- Holiday travel size and road windows: AAA Thanksgiving 2025 and AAA Christmas/year-end 2025. AAA's road timing guidance draws on INRIX. Selected-year departures are modeled from those past calendars, not observed traffic for the year you chose.
- Airport-specific history: Airport departures on time and cancellation shares come from BTS reporting-carrier domestic flight records for November and December 2025, independently tabulated by On-Time Report. The link in the airport comparison updates to that exact airport and month. The U.S. averages are 78.1% on-time / 2.5% canceled (November) and 72.0% / 1.5% (December). These monthly airport records do not describe one holiday day or local TSA lines.
- Flight delays: Bureau of Transportation Statistics airport facts and monthly airline on-time tables. The displayed figures are historical 2025 monthly departure on-time and cancellation percentages, never a probability that your exact travel day will depart on time. The unspecified-airport option uses a clearly labeled U.S. monthly baseline. Date rankings still rely on national TSA crowds, not invented local passenger counts.
- Driving fuel: U.S. Energy Information Administration weekly regular gasoline prices, October 12, 2026 snapshot. Fuel cost estimate = one-way distance ÷ your miles per gallon × that regional pump price. Does not include tolls, detours, parking or future price changes.
The travel calendar rolls over automatically; the cited data remains dated until verified newer official figures are added.
Arrival buffer: A suggested planning allowance, not a measured TSA queue. The tool gives more time on dates with heavier national screenings. Start from your airline and departure airport's current recommendation; add time for checked bags, parking, children and international travel.
Important: AAA counts expected U.S. holiday person-trips, while TSA counts individual checkpoint screenings (including business and international trips). Those totals cannot be divided into each other or treated as interchangeable. Weather, local congestion and cancellations can override every pattern shown here. If it is a long drive, do not depart so early that you are fatigued.
