GAULEY RELEASE LIVE

Follow the water through the Gauley Gorge.

Summersville Dam creates a moving river event. This tool tracks the release signal, estimates where that water is headed, and shows what is observed versus modeled.

FOLLOW THE WATER

The river is the moving object.

When release onset is observed, the model turns that signal into downstream arrival windows with widening uncertainty. The map line is a modeled control-point corridor; the basemap shows the detailed river channel.

CONTEXT, NOT JUST CFS

How does this compare with Gauley release days?

Historical release-day median Loading…

Belva daily mean, filtered to the recurring fall release-day calendar pattern.

Current modeled percentile

Appears when a usable effective-flow estimate and historical sample are both available.

What changed? Waiting for trend

The app compares the last 24 hours of Belva flow and tailwater stage when available.

OBSERVED VS MODELED

No fake precision.

The tailwater gauge tells us when the river begins responding below the dam. USACE operations can confirm release-level outflow. Belva measures downstream discharge. The release-wave engine combines those signals only after onset evidence exists, then widens arrival uncertainty downstream.
