Bend's high-desert elevation and position east of the Cascades make it far more snow-favorable than Oregon's major west-side cities, though dry sunny spells can reduce shallow snow quickly.
CASouth Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe is a high-elevation Sierra community where mountain storms can build deep December snow, but rain-snow lines and warm Pacific systems still matter.
NVReno
Reno is a high desert city in the rain shadow of the Sierra. It can receive winter snow, but Christmas cover is much less dependable than nearby Tahoe and Sierra communities.
Southwest High Country

Flagstaff
Flagstaff is one of the clearest examples of elevation overpowering latitude. At roughly 7,000 feet, it has a genuine mountain winter despite being in Arizona.
NMSanta Fe
Santa Fe's elevation above 7,000 feet gives it real winter cold and snow potential, but the dry Southwest climate makes persistent cover less automatic than elevation alone suggests.
Mid-Atlantic & Appalachians

Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh lies near the transition between reliably cold northern winters and the more volatile Mid-Atlantic, so Christmas snow is possible but strongly dependent on late-December storm and thaw timing.
NCAsheville
Asheville is far south, but Appalachian elevation gives it a real—though still relatively uncommon—path to Christmas snow compared with surrounding lower-elevation Southern cities.
Alaska

Anchorage
Anchorage has a cold, snowy Southcentral Alaska climate, but coastal influence and occasional warm storms mean Christmas snow should still be checked rather than assumed.
AKFairbanks
Fairbanks has a deeply continental subarctic winter. Once snow cover is established, extremely cold December temperatures make meaningful melt unlikely.

Amarillo
Amarillo is one of the better Southern Plains candidates for an occasional White Christmas because its high elevation and exposure to Arctic air make it much colder than most of Texas.
OKOklahoma City
Oklahoma City sits near the rare-snow edge of the national White Christmas map. Snow can occur, but lasting Christmas cover usually requires unusually well-timed Arctic cold.
