Can I drive all the way across Going-to-the-Sun Road today?

Lower road sections can be open while the alpine crossing is not. This checks the west side, Logan Pass area and east side as one through-drive decision before you commit to the 50-mile crossing.

What this tool is trying to answer

Going-to-the-Sun Road is not one open/closed switch. A useful answer has to distinguish lower-road access from a true west-to-east crossing over the alpine section, then keep the vehicle-size gate separate from physical road status.

  • A lower section being open does not prove Logan Pass is open to through traffic.
  • The full road is roughly 50 miles and takes about two hours without stops, so discovering an alpine closure late is costly.
  • Vehicles over the published alpine size limits need a different plan even when the road is open.

How to use this result

Make the decision from the status, freshness and evidence together

Start with the current decision and the trip consequence above it, then check the timestamp and source excerpt. A favorable condition is not a blanket all-clear. If the tool returns VERIFY or LIVE SOURCE UNAVAILABLE, open the official source instead of treating an old reading as current. Recheck close to departure because roads, alerts, water levels and mountain weather can change after you first plan the trip.
