Boston Creek Cascades: the new trail that opens a quieter Keweenaw
This is not a giant named waterfall. It is a short series of little rock-ledged cascades within a newly opened 40-acre public nature area, where the trail itself is the experience.

~3 spacesLand trust reports a small roadside visitor lot
Opened 2025New bridges, stairs and boardwalk; not an accessible route claim
Current trail and parking conditions are not confirmed by a live land-manager report. Follow posted preserve signs and avoid icy or unstable tread.
Visitor decision: A strong short-walk option when you can use the small, signed preserve parking area and the trail is in suitable condition. Expect small cascades, not a large waterfall. Parts of the route descend steeply and use stairs. The creek's flow is not monitored live.
Find the right place, not a guessed parking pin
Map reference: Boston Creek Nature Area (reserve centre, not cascade). It is not a parking waypoint. Use the published visitor directions below rather than driving to this coordinate.
The pin is the OpenStreetMap reserve-area centre, not a surveyed cascade, trail, or parking lot. There are no automated car directions from this point.
Walk the established nature-area loop
From Hancock, follow the Keweenaw Land Trust's published approach via Pontiac Road to Boston Cross Cut Road. Look for the nature-area sign on the south side and the small parking area it identifies. The trail begins at the south end of that lot, descends the creek valley on switchbacks, crosses built structures, and loops through the woods.
The land trust documents roughly 0.8 mile for the loop. The cascades occur along the creek, but neither a separate waterfall GPS nor a surveyed cascade-by-cascade path is published. Stay on the signed public trail and avoid shortcutting creek banks.
New public access, not a newly discovered wild waterfall, is the story here. In autumn 2025 the Keweenaw Land Trust opened a trail built with volunteer labor, including a substantial boardwalk, bridge and stairs. The creek runs through shale outcrops and a shaded northwoods valley; its small ledges make a quieter alternative to the major falls farther north.
Because the route is a preserve loop rather than a single named waterfall destination, the honest way to plan is to use the signed preserve entrance, follow its existing trail and treat the cascades as scenery encountered along the creek. Do not attempt an off-trail shortcut to the map reference.
