What the count can and cannot tell you

The published manatee number is useful context, but it is not automatically a same-day census. Blue Spring Adventures labels the field “Daily Manatee Count,” while the source page does not expose the observation timestamp in a stable machine-readable field. This page therefore labels it as the latest published count.

Decision rule: use the count together with the live thermal refuge signal. Cold St. Johns River water and a warm Blue Spring create the conditions that often concentrate manatees in winter.
