What matters most tonight
Marquette is far enough north that modest geomagnetic activity can matter, but Lake Superior cloud cover can change the practical result quickly. Compare the aurora signal with the local sky forecast before driving.

Move away from direct city lighting and favor a safe location with a broad northern horizon. Open Lake Superior-facing views can be useful because they reduce nearby obstructions and foreground light.

How to read this page: Kp is a broad geomagnetic index. NOAA OVATION is a modeled short-term aurora signal. Neither is a local sighting probability. Cloud cover, darkness, moonlight, light pollution and horizon quality still determine what you can actually see.
