What makes this visit worthwhile?
This is a hike-first waterfall day, not a scenic-byway roadside stop. A remote-feeling Baltimore River curtain viewed from a suspension bridge.
Trail and access reality
2026 NCTA trail ownership audit: The U.S. Forest Service owns the signed Segment 22 corridor; Ottawa National Forest and Peter Wolfe Chapter volunteers maintain it. The May 2026 chapter trail guide documents the US-45 parking, 1.4-mile route to the suspension bridge, and seasonal conditions. The map point is the fall, not a car parking destination.
Approximately 1.1–1.3 miles one way following the NCT to a Baltimore River suspension bridge; roots, boardwalk and steeper grades near the river.
The eastern side of the Baltimore River is not a parking access point. Do not plan to scramble behind the waterfall. A known visitor route does not guarantee that a bridge, road or overlook is accessible on your visit date.
Seasonal waterfall conditions
River volume and the landscape can change after rainfall or snowmelt. Autumn offers hardwood colors; ice can make winter approaches hazardous. This page does not provide measured real-time waterfall flow or a current parking report.
