Border wait versus bridge queue: the official number estimates border processing for the selected traffic stream. The bridge camera can show toll or approach traffic that the number does not include.

How long is the Blue Water Bridge wait?

The live answer above uses CBSA when you are entering Canada and CBP when you are entering the United States. Those directions can differ sharply. Passenger standard, NEXUS, commercial standard and FAST records also stay separate; a missing dedicated-lane report is never filled with the standard-lane value.

Blue Water is the main Michigan–Ontario crossing for the I-94/I-69 and Highway 402 corridor. Travelers coming from much of central and eastern Michigan may compare it with Detroit crossings, but the distance between Port Huron and Detroit must be considered independently. The statewide Michigan border dashboard lets you inspect all five without claiming that the lowest customs number creates the shortest overall route.

Blue Water Bridge tolls are cashless

The standard passenger planning rate in the selected direction is $5 USD. The live tool will show the direction-specific note. The U.S. and Canadian plazas publish separate rate schedules and currencies.

The Michigan-to-Ontario side publishes a $5 USD passenger rate and accepts approved card, mobile-wallet and account payments. The Ontario-to-Michigan side publishes a $7 CAD debit/credit rate, with a lower ConneXion account rate. Both directions are cashless. Confirm the MDOT toll schedule and Canadian toll schedule.

Why the camera and wait can disagree

The official queue camera can reveal traffic approaching a plaza, but it cannot identify your selected customs direction, vehicle class or lane program. The Highway 402 camera is even farther from processing. The most reliable reading is therefore: agency wait for the selected stream, camera for visual context, and road-event feed for approach disruptions.

  • Queue cameras update on their own operator schedule and may briefly be unavailable.
  • Ontario events are filtered within 25 miles but do not include every possible local delay.
  • Use Mi Drive for current Michigan-side incidents and construction.
  • Commercial traffic should check FAST status and truck toll classes separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Blue Water Bridge open 24 hours?

It normally operates 24 hours. Current port status, lane closures and bridge notices can still change, so check this live card and the official traffic pages.

Can I pay cash at Blue Water Bridge?

No. Both toll directions are cashless under the current operator policies. Carry an accepted debit or credit card, mobile payment method or the relevant bridge account.

Are there two Blue Water bridges?

The crossing uses a pair of parallel bridge spans between Port Huron and Point Edward. Direction and traffic assignments can vary during maintenance, but customs wait data is reported by port and traffic stream.

Is Blue Water faster than crossing in Detroit?

It depends on origin, destination, current border delay and highway conditions. A five-minute customs advantage can be erased by the drive between Port Huron and Detroit, so compare complete routes rather than only wait numbers.
