Rainbow Bridge Wait Times Live
Check the current official Rainbow Bridge delay before you enter the Niagara Falls approach. This page keeps Canada-bound and U.S.-bound reporting separate, then adds the official camera views, toll, pedestrian and bicycle access, and the restriction that matters most: commercial trucks cannot use Rainbow Bridge.

NITTEC publishes dedicated Rainbow Bridge camera stills toward Canada and toward the United States. The image below is a live-refresh traffic view, not a customs wait measurement.

How long is the Rainbow Bridge wait?
The current number above uses Canada Border Services Agency reporting when you are entering Canada and U.S. Customs and Border Protection reporting when you are entering the United States. Those agencies report different directions and can show very different delays at the same time. The number represents border processing for the selected traffic stream. It does not include the time you may spend reaching the bridge through Niagara Falls streets, waiting at a toll point, or continuing from the plaza after inspection.
Rainbow is the most natural Niagara crossing for many visitor trips because it connects the Falls districts directly. That makes it fundamentally different from Peace Bridge, which belongs to the Buffalo–Fort Erie/QEW corridor, and Lewiston–Queenston, which is north of the Falls and tied to Highway 405. A lower wait at another bridge is useful information, but it is not enough by itself to justify leaving the route you already need.
Rainbow Bridge tolls and hours
Rainbow Bridge is normally open 24 hours. The toll is collected Canada-bound under the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission schedule; entering the United States has no bridge toll. Rates can change, and the operator remains the source of truth for current toll classes and payment details. The live card above displays the planning rate carried by the Niagara crossing data so you can compare it with the other bridges without treating toll cost as border wait.
Can you walk across Rainbow Bridge?
Yes. Rainbow Bridge supports pedestrian and bicycle crossings and is the Niagara bridge most visitors associate with walking between the two Niagara Falls downtown areas. Border inspection rules still apply, and travelers need the documents required for their citizenship and travel. A vehicle wait cannot be used as a pedestrian wait, which is why the main Niagara engine refuses to substitute car data when someone selects walking or bicycling.
For someone visiting the Falls on foot, the important question is less “which bridge has the lowest car delay?” and more whether Rainbow is operating normally and whether the pedestrian crossing procedures fit the trip. The bridge commission's current crossing information controls those details.
Who should use Rainbow Bridge?
- Niagara Falls visitors.
Rainbow directly links the Falls districts and Highway 420/I-190 approaches. - Passenger vehicles.
Cars, SUVs, buses and permitted towing configurations can use the crossing under current operator rules. - Pedestrians and bicycles.
Rainbow supports both, making it different from Whirlpool and pedestrian-restricted Lewiston–Queenston. - Not commercial trucks.
Commercial vehicles and trucks are prohibited; use Peace or Lewiston–Queenston instead.
Why Rainbow can still be the right bridge when another wait is lower
Niagara crossings are separated by real driving distance. If your trip begins or ends in the Falls district, a small posted advantage at Peace or Lewiston–Queenston may disappear before you even reach the alternate bridge. The main Niagara border decision tool protects against that mistake by requiring a meaningful reported benefit before it tells a traveler to abandon the natural corridor.
Rainbow Bridge crossing questions
Is Rainbow Bridge open 24 hours?
It normally operates around the clock. Incidents, maintenance or border operations can still change lane availability, so check the live operator and agency information before entering the approach.
Can trucks cross Rainbow Bridge?
No. Commercial trucks are not permitted. Truck traffic should use Peace Bridge or Lewiston–Queenston and compare the commercial stream rather than passenger waits.
Is Rainbow Bridge better than Peace Bridge for Niagara Falls?
For trips centered on the Falls district, Rainbow is usually the more natural route because it lands directly in Niagara Falls on both sides. Peace can still be appropriate when a traveler is coming from Buffalo, Fort Erie or the QEW corridor and the route geometry favors staying south.
Does NEXUS have a separate Rainbow Bridge wait?
The official sources do not always publish a dedicated comparable Rainbow NEXUS wait. When that value is unavailable, this page labels it unavailable instead of copying the standard passenger value.
